Don Schum, PhD Honored with Distinguished Alumni Award by the College of Applied Health Sciences, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Don Schum, PhD, Vice President of Audiology and Professional Relations for Oticon, Inc., was recently honored with a Distinguished Alumni Award by the College of Applied Health Sciences, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.   At the October 22 awards ceremony, College of Applied Health Sciences alumni, faculty and students celebrated Dr. Schum’s accomplishments and contributions to the field of audiology.

“Throughout the history of the College of Applied Health Science, the accomplishments of our alumni have been among our greatest source of pride,” said Tanya M. Gallagher, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Applied Health Science. “As a graduate of our speech and science program, Dr. Schum has distinguished himself as one of our most accomplished alumni.  He has brought tremendous pride to his alma mater and I am pleased that he has been selected to receive this prestigious college award for 2010.”

Dr. Schum’s more than twenty year career in audiology encompasses a wide range of achievements in research, education and professional relations.  As Vice President of Audiology and Professional Relations for Oticon, Inc., he has the responsibility to create and implement new audiological training materials, oversee the audiological training of employees, and develop practitioner support materials and tools.  Dr. Schum participates in numerous national and international conferences and has been an active researcher in the area of hearing solutions, speech understanding and aging.
