Voice Aligned Compression
To provide natural sound quality and preserve speech intelligibility, Syncro utilizes a proprietary Oticon compression model called Voice Aligned Compression. This model is built on a platform of eight independent compression channels across an expanded bandwidth. Up to seven distinct compression knee-points are implemented in each channel to ensure a smooth frequency response at all input levels.
New compression tactics Low to medium intensity sounds receive more amplification and moderate compression, to increase the user’s listening range and sense of environmental awareness. Moderate to loud sounds receive little amplification and progressively less compression to provide access to important speech cues in difficult listening environments. Very loud, transient sounds are fully compressed for complete comfort and protection. For technical details, click on the image below.

Soft squelch Soft squelch reduces the gain rapidly, to prevent low intensity background noises (e.g. hums and hisses in a quiet room) from being amplified. Listening distance control Low-level compression helps to increase the user's awareness of low-level environmental sounds, without affecting the gain applied to louder inputs. Low level compression More compression for low-level input helps to provide more linear gain for higher sound inputs where the important speech cues occur. Increased linearity Increasing the linear processing as input levels increase helps to preserve more of the dynamic characteristics of the speech signal in adverse listening situations. Completion zone For maximum protection from loud sounds, high input levels are given no amplification whatsoever.
