RISE

Introducing RISE.
A new microchip platform for Oticon hearing instruments.

What is a microchip platform?
The heart of any hearing instrument is the microchip processor which undertakes all sound processing activities in the device. Oticon designs all its own proprietary microchip platforms at our state of the art design centre in Denmark.

Wireless - from the ground up
RISE represents the state of the art in a sound processing microchip, is the first hearing instrument microchip platform to be built from the ground up with wireless connectivity as the key component.

A hearing device as an interface.
Until now, hearing instruments have focused on restoring an individual's ability to communicate with people within their immediate sound environment the "near world" From now on however a hearing instrument can become a crucial tool to connecting to everything which is outside this near world.  The hearing aid will become an interface for people to connect to the "far world".  Just as the internet opened up unimagined possibilities for personal computers, RISE will transform all previous notions of what hearing instruments can be used for.

Binaural Broadband
RISE will enable information streaming between two hearing aids at a rate 100 times faster than anything now possible.  This "binaural broadband" processing will enable two hearing instruments to function as one central processor.  The result is a more effective coordination of compression strategies and effective feedback management.

Bluetooth compatibility
The RISE microchip platform will enable hearing instruments to connect with Bluetooth devices.  With RISE, hearing impaired people will be able to communicate via Bluetooth enabled cell phones through both ears at the same time! The future possibilities of wireless Bluetooth are virtually endless. From TV's to PDA's to MP3 players, personal computers, to GPS systems, video games car stereo's.  If a device is Bluetooth enabled, RISE will enable future hearing instruments to connect with it - wirelessly.

Extreme Bandwidth-One single signal bandwidth
processing element
The RISE microchip platform offers a much broader bandwidth than is possible with current hearing instruments.  The RISE microchip has only one signal processing element in which all processing takes place.  Hearing instruments using the RISE chip simply sound better.

The RISE chip platform will pave the way for Oticon hearing instruments to move from simple amplifying devices to a portal that connects people to the world of modern communication.
